While the Genesis is a fun system on it’s own, peer pressure and “what’s hip” really is what brought the Genesis so close to beating out the Super Nintendo. I remember reading studies that 80% (?) of teenagers during the 16 bit era were too ashamed to admit that they owned a Super Nintendo over a Sega Genesis.
